About Me

March 5th, 2007

CherieSeattle ain’t too bad.
It has a lot to offer…grocery co ops, tasty restaurants, lovely bookstores (Left Bank Books in Pike Place Market has my heart), friendly folk….

I am a feminist, an environmentalist, and a traveler. I disagree with our government and am equally disgusted with our world in its current state. Our “values” and “ideals” have gone to shit.

I’m a runner and a yogini. I like being outside and getting out on the trails. I frequent Discovery Park and Green Lake. I am involved with a hot yoga studio and dedicated to a regular practice.

I ride my bike everywhere. I love it.

I read quite a bit… some of my favorite books- Welcome to the Machine (Derrick Jensen-Im a huge fan of all of his work), I Know This Much Is True (Wally Lamb), East of the Mountains (David Guterson), The Omnivores Dilemma (Michael Pollan), Better off (Eric Brende),The Beauty Myth (Naomi Wolf), Cunt (Inga Muscio).

I’m drawn to any number of things…
The Southwestern portion of the US- cacti and desolate dry sprawling earth. Mexico- the beauty of this country and its diverse landscape blows me away. Photography- pictures of people mainly, black and white.
Music- everything..classical, Latin, punk rock, etc.  And of course, anything that I can dance to.

Foods that I never tire of…blueberries, figs, fennel, winter squash, radicchio, kale, avocado, red grapes, heirloom tomatoes, beets, tahini, olives, walnuts, cherries, apple butter, pears, mushrooms, artichokes…

I abhor factory farming. To know my food is of utmost importance-where its been, how it was raised…I respect the earth and myself too much to plead ignorance. The family farm is collapsing under the weight of big business. I want to take responsibility for my food and I feel our current system fails to do that. I fully applaud those folks that are still living off the land and providing for their families. Having worked on small farms in the past and seen firsthand what sustainable farming (animal & vegetable) looks like- its apparent that our current conditions are far removed from the original respectable idea. It shows in our tasteless food, our declining health, our damaged environment.

I enjoy spicy foods… the flavor of cumin and allspice…love garlic.
I drink red wine, dark beer and good gin.

I like a nice dark chocolate in small amounts…I don’t have much of a sweet tooth but will crave cake sporadically.
And coffee- espresso or an americano… black.

Whole foods, minimal processing, natural and delicious.
Activity- challenge in both the physical and mental sense.

A purist, I err towards simplicity, live well and continually seek learning.
