thanks giving.
This is my favorite holiday. I love the eating and the drinking and the smiling faces around my dining room table. I like the way my house smells and my kitchen feels. Tomorrow, Ill wake up early to start in on baking and by late afternoon most dishes will be complete…or pretty damn close. The oven will be going, all four burners on my stove lit up. Mixing and chopping, tasting and seasoning, cutting and cooking. I jumped the gun a bit tonight and decided to begin my preparations by making a Cranberry-Orange Sauce for tomorrows dinner. Its incredible how much better home made cranberry sauce tastes, it beats the jellied can nonsense no contest. Granted, serving a gelatinous tube o’ artificial flavoring/coloring + high fructose corn syrup could be considered a novelty but unfortunately its a novelty that wears off pretty quick once you put it in your mouth (that shit is foul). Making a delicious fresh cranberry sauce is real easy and real fast and so very much worth the (minimal) effort. 2 cups cranberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup orange juice
zest of 1 orange
Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Boil for 10 to 15 minutes, or until thickened sufficiently. Refrigerate before serving.
(makes 4-6 servings)
